Archer Longbow Geospatial Field Solution

13 Jul 2009

ESRI User’s Conference, San Diego, CA, July 13, 2009 – Juniper Systems, Inc. and Surveylab Ltd. announce the launch of the new Archer Longbow™ remote positioning GPS handheld. By combining a rugged computer, GPS receiver, 3D compass, digital camera and a laser rangefinder, the Longbow provides the user with an all-in-one mobile GIS data capture solution. The laser is available in 100 meter, 300 meter and 1,000 meter versions.

Juniper Systems and Surveylab have entered into an agreement to bring the Longbow to market. The Archer Longbow combines Juniper Systems’ rugged Archer® Field PC with Surveylab’s patented ikeGPS™ precision geospatial instrumentation and software.

“The Archer Longbow is a natural fit with our other rugged computing solutions,” said Rob Campbell, CEO of Juniper Systems. “We are delighted to be partnering with Surveylab to bring this exciting new solution to our customers. Archer Longbow’s innovative remote data capture capability offers users a unique solution for unsafe or time consuming tasks.”

“Juniper Systems has earned an enviable reputation for delivering ruggedized field computing solutions to customers working in demanding environments,” said Leon Toorenburg, CEO of Surveylab. “The Archer Longbow is faster, longer-range, tougher, smaller, lighter and more accurate than any other product available today.”

The user simply points the Archer Longbow at a target up to a kilometer away, pushes a button, and captures the target’s GPS coordinate plus a picture of the target. It then produces a verifiable, geo-tagged digital image with crosshairs and other information superimposed on the image to precisely record which target was recorded.

Users such as the military, oil & gas industry, utilities, forestry, land surveyors and public works agencies have been using Surveylab’s ikeGPS technology for years in situations where targets are difficult to reach or safety is a concern. For example, ikeGPS is making the task of humanitarian demining much quicker and safer for some of the world’s leading NGOs working in the most threatening environments. ikeGPS technology is also used in aviation, local government, in water reticulation, in agriculture and in power transmission. Finally, ikeGPS is being used to support reconstruction efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
