Windows 10 not activated on Mesa

6 Apr 2021

You may experience a Windows activation error with your Mesa 3 Windows tablet if you don't connect the device to Wi-Fi within the first six months or you have one of the model units listed below. The following sections describe how to fix the activation error.

Note: Mesa 3 Windows tablets built after October 22, 2022, run Windows 10 IoT Enterprise. The internet activation error does not occur with this operating system.

Immediate Windows 10 Pro Activation Error for Specific Model Units

New Mesa 3 Windows model units that originally shipped from the factory between March 4th and April 6th, 2021 (as can be checked using the Check Product Status web page) with serial numbers between 271137 to 295221, that have our OS Build 21040 installed (which includes Microsoft Windows 10 release 20H2) may not automatically activate the Windows license. Running Windows Update to install the KB5000842 fix from Microsoft may resolve this issue. Otherwise, to help with this issue, we provide a simplified tool and instructions you can extract from the following file link.

Delayed Windows 10 Pro Activation Error for Devices without Wi-Fi Connection

You will also experience this activation error if you choose not to connect to Wi-Fi (or any Internet connection) during the setup of the device. You must connect to the internet and restart within six months to activate. After six months, a message will appear stating that Windows can't activate.

There are three solutions to this problem:

Windows Troubleshooter

Under Settings > Activation an error message will say, "We can’t activate Windows on this device because you don’t have a valid digital license or product key. If you think you do have a valid license or key, select Troubleshoot below. Error code 0xc004c003."

Connect to the internet and run the Window Troubleshooter on the device. This will activate Windows for you.

Manual Activation

Open Command Prompt on the unit to run the following command:

wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey

This will allow you to view the Windows license that is saved in the firmware. Go to Start > Settings > System > About and enter the license at the bottom of the screen.

Contact Juniper Systems Support

Another way to obtain the Windows license (MS product key) of the unit, is to contact support@junipersys.com with the serial number of the unit. You can then manually enter the license at the bottom of the Start > Settings > System > About screen.
