Verizon Wireless allows mobile devices like the Archer and Allegro Field PCs to connect to the Internet through their QNC (Quick Net Connect, 14.4 Kbps) and 1xRTT (50-80 Kbps) networks. Below are instructions for different connection methods.

Bluetooth Connection

Although there are not many Verizon phones that allow modem connections through Bluetooth wireless technology, you may be able to find one when searching for a cell phone with "Bluetooth DUN" (Dial-Up Networking) functionality.

1. Make sure the cell phone has the Bluetooth DUN profile enabled, and that Bluetooth on the phone is set as "Shown to All".

2. On the Field PC, tap on the Bluetooth "B" icon > Advanced Features > My Bluetooth Device.

3. In the General tab, check the Discoverable and Connectable checkboxes.

4. In the COM Ports tab, check the Bluetooth Phone checkbox, and then tap OK to close the Device Manager window.

5. Tap on the Bluetooth "B" icon > Get Connected! Follow the instructions given in the Get Connected! wizard.

Note: If you have troubles discovering and bonding to your phone as explained in the Get Connected! wizard, you can perform this setup manually by tapping on the Bluetooth "B" icon > Advanced Features > Bluetooth Devices > Tools menu > Device Discovery.

6. You may be asked to enter a PassKey. If your cell phone does not have a default Bluetooth PassKey, try entering any character such as "1". If you are asked to confirm the new PassKey on the cell phone, enter the same character again.

7. Make a new dial-up connection by tapping on Start > Settings > Network and Dial-Up Connections, and double-tap Make New Connection.

8. Tap on Dial-Up Connection > Next > Modem: Bluetooth Phone > Next. Enter the Phone Number as: #777, and then tap Finish.

9. Double-tap "My Connection" or the connection you made.

10. If connecting to the QNC network, set User: qnc and Password: qnc. If connecting to the 1xRTT network, set User: <10digitphonenumber>@vzw.com or vzw3g.com and Password: vzw.

11. Tap on Dial Properties > Edit. Change all three text boxes to "G", and then press Enter. Tap OK, confirm that "Phone:" is set to "#777" with no country or area code.

12. Tap Connect.

Serial Cable or Infrared (Allegro only) Connection

1. Make sure the cell phone has a serial cable connected or the Infrared port is turned on, and is set to allow modem (data) connections through the port.

Note: If connecting via Infrared, also confirm that the Infrared has not been disabled in the Control Panel on the Allegro.

2. On the Allegro, make a new dial-up connection by tapping on Start > Settings > Network and Dial-Up Connections, and double-tap Make New Connection.

3. Tap on Dial-Up Connection > Next > Modem: "Hayes Compatible on COM1:" or "Generic IR Modem" > Next. Enter the Phone Number as: #777, and then tap Finish.

4. Double-tap "My Connection" or the name of the connection you just created.

5. If connecting to the QNC network, set User: qnc and Password: qnc. If connecting to the 1xRTT network, set User: <10digitphonenumber>@vzw.com or vzw3g.com and Password: vzw.

6. Tap on Dial Properties > Edit. Change all three text boxes to "G", and then press Enter. Tap OK, confirm that "Phone:" is set to "#777" with no country or area code.

7. Aim the Infrared port on the cell phone and on the Allegro toward each other within 2-3 feet.

8. Tap Connect.
